I guess I'll take what I can get.
I don't think I mentioned it here, but Leighanna made All County Chorus. There were only 6 students chosen from each school in the county and there was plenty of competition. She had to audition and she was so excited when she made it. These things are right up her alley.
My BEAUTIFUL daughter... growing up. |
2011 All County Chorus |
So for several weeks we had to drive her to another elementary school to practice. We were on a final countdown with only a week to go when I get a call from school. "Mom, my team won the egg drop. Now we go to Universal next week(at 7:30 AM on a Saturday) for the county competition".
BTW: I will need to stay after school every day next week to work on the egg lander.
Say wha??? NEXT WEEK??? You have chorus practice and your performance next week. AND I am scheduled to work everyday and I also have to find you a black skirt. ACK!
Rule of thumb... everything falls in the same week.
Now just in case you didn't know(because I surely did not), these egg drop competitions are big business. There are size, weight and materials rules. Oral presentations, dramatic countdowns, costumes and judges from NASA. Research based display boards based on the scientific method. If your lander lands on its side... you loose points. If you can't answer the questions from the judges... you loose points.
Who knew its no longer just about whether or not you broke an egg!
That aside... I am excited to announce that Leighanna's team, "The Egg-vaders", won 2nd place overall in the county competition.
*Justin was scoping out the ideas from the other teams for next year. That's my son for ya!
Side note... this was an interesting display board.
Did the teacher not see the issue here?? |
In the mean time...(again in the same week) Justin had a science project due. I will post "The making of the "NASA Bird" next".
This was just one week. The rest of the month has been much of the same.
One more week... One more week... One more week! There is going to be some Mama tears, but I can handle it.
Oh... and Justin got a hair cut :) He told the hair dresser "my dads doing to KILL my mom". I'm not dead, but I warned him hours before he came home... plenty of time to get over it.
See how smart I is??!!??
Happy Sunday!

Ah, there is soooo much content to work with here...but you know me, I am focused on the ... ahem ... poster. Is that a hand-drawn diagram of a somewhat erect .... ahhhh....yeah, how did the teacher not notice that one.
So, did you guys make the Egg-vader T's. That was sooo cool. I love that they get that into it.
AND...I got chills when I saw the pic of the chorus Lora. That is a big deal. Tell Leighanna she is a Super Star. I am so impressed.
One ... MORE ... WEEK....One.More.Week. ONEMOREWEEK!!!! I am extremely intimate with this chain of words.
xoxo
Hooray for Leighanna! Kudos to you for all that you did to enable her!
That poster? Um, yeah, you sure that was entered into right contest? Was that for the egg drop or the sperm drop?
Post a pic of Justin's new 'do!
OMG... the end of the school year just about kills me every year! Hang in there... summer's coming! I promise!
I just about spit my coffee all over my screen with that poster shot!!
congrats on all the greatness...you must be a super proud mama!!
Way to go Leighanna!!
And way to go whoever that poster was based on lol sorry I had to...
Congrats to Leighanna! The All County Chorus pic is really impressive!
And as for the poster....uhmmmm, what can I say that hasn't already been said....lmao!
Hope this week goes quickly and smoothly for you! The end of the school year is always such chaos!
Thanks for sharing. Good post. Happy post. Smiles all around. Whatta girl!! Love to you!!!
HOLY SHIT... wth was that poster? hahahah. i laughed out loud and the room echoed. i see issues with that poster... maybe u should email the teachers hahahah.
congrats to your daughter she sure looks proud of her plaque!!
WOW! That's a big deal with the County Chorus! How exciting...and total pride moment!!!
Egg dropping IS a big deal. It's all about the landing and the methods used to get the perfect non breakable egg landing. My daughter's team stuck the egg inside bubble wrap, then inside a stuffed teddy bear, then in a box. Didn't break...but didn't win either. But yea, whould'a thought.
Ummm......how on earth did the PARENTS of those kids not catch that?!?!?
They probably drew it! Can you say Freudian issues?
How sad...no one's even going to remember who won.....they'll remember that poster though!
It always amazes me how busy the last couple of weeks of school can be.
Congrats on all the amazing achievements...and for surviving the craziness of them all!!
Ah, the poster...how did SOMEONE not see that?!?! Or is it just that all of OUR minds are in the gutter?!??! :)
Wow-Leighanna rocks! I know you are so proud of her! : )
and the poster? I'd think the parents would have totally censored it! (or helped their child RE-draw?)
Hahaha!
And yay for Universal! When we go it's a huge deal (and um..travel!!)-I can't believe they get to go for a competition-that's AWESOME!! : )
youz arez the smartiest ever!
For sure, when it rains, it pours! But how cool is that award she got! (And on a side note, how awkward was that other submission...the teacher HAD to notice that, right???)
You are going to rock this week, you and your amazing kids will ride into summer ready for some chillaxin! You CAN do this!!
Looks like you guys have been having a blast! Busy, busy, busy!
And I bet the teacher did notice the poster - they need to have something to laugh about while being forced to do these competitions, too!
Can't wait to hear about Justin's fun times, too :)
