How...

How do you make them understand? Understand that this is not "just" a disease. How do you make them understand that the very medication meant to help... comes with it's own set of challenges.

How do you make them understand that for most kids his age... the biggest responsibility they have is whether or not they had their agenda signed. But for him... his biggest responsibility is keeping himself alive.

How do you make them understand that you don't spend your day making up excuses. All that has taken place in the last few years has taken its toll mentally on us all, especially him. How do you make them understand that you need help. HE needs help.

I know having my child in your class is a headache. I know that I ask you to monitor him, redirect him, show understanding and afford him additional time. I know that he doesn't fit in the tidy little box. I also know that he IS worth the effort and I just need you not to give up on him.

oh Lora, they will, the great teachers will want to know how to help, they'll realize that they don't know everything and remember that there is always so much more going on in each child than "just" what is in front of their eyes. Give them a chance, encourage their ability to care for him and thank them when they seem overwhelmed. Teaching is a tough job, wondering if you're going to screw up a class of 30 is overwhelming, but the vast majority of teachers really want your child to not only learn but thrive. It isn't going to be easy, but it'll work out. And if it seems to not be don't feel unsure about voicing your concerns, again, great teachers want to hear it - they want to improve...and your son should not only be learning, but be learning in a safe place. I hope everything turns out well :)

Never, Never, Never Give Up.

I hope they don't...they should not...I hope they see that. Professionally and personally, it is wrong.

Love you Lora. You are fighting the good fight. It is unfortunate that you are still having to do it though ... (((HUGS)))

My heart hurts reading this. How can you get people to understand that have put up a self important wall and don't want to hear? People that think they know your child better than you. People that have hundreds of other children in their care and don't want to put in any extra effort. HOW???? I wish I could blaze in on a horse and make them understand. I think the only way how is to keep trying. I know you...and that is your course. Warrior on, mama!
